# Add Local Shading

Local Shading are planar surfaces that can be nominated for any aspect or window in either 'Top', 'Bottom', 'Left', 'Right', 'Vertical' or 'Horizontal' positions. When set, Local Shading can be configured to vary in Projection, Offset, Rotation, Gap (Distance from wall), Position, Opacity and more. When created, its default is to be used in both Reference, and Proposed Buildings and opacity is set to 100%.

## Projection

A Projection can be specified as a single depth or as a dual depth. Depths up to 5 meters are available.

## Gap

The 'Gap' refers to the distance between a shading projection and either the 'Window' or 'Door' it relates to, or the 'Aspect' it's aligned with.

## Rotation

'Rotation' defines the angle of the shading element and can be set between -90 and 90 degrees, depending on the plane of the 'Surface'.

## Offset

An 'Offset' allows you to shift a 'Surface' horizontally (left or right) or vertically (top or bottom), based on the type of 'Surface' being defined.

## Opacity

'Opacity' controls how transparent the 'Surface' is and can be set anywhere from 1 to 100 percent.

## Device

A 'Device' can be specified to omit 'Shading' from the 'Reference' building simulation.

## Distribution

'Distribution' applies to vertical and horizontal 'Surfaces' only. It lets you control the spread of 'Shading' elements, define how many vertical and horizontal 'Surfaces' are used, and specify how they are aligned.

To set Local Shading, navigate 'Shading', select 'Assign Tag' and select a predefined Tag or 'Create New Tag'. Next, Finally, set the 'Scope' of the device, identifying if it is at the 'Aspect' or 'Window or Door'. Then, hit 'Create Surface', and select from 'Top', 'Bottom', 'Left', 'Right', 'Vertical' or 'Horizontal'. Then define the 'Projection', 'Gap', 'Rotation', 'Offset', 'Opacity' and 'Device' settings. Click 'Save'. Tagging should be used to copy shading designs from one 'Aspect' or 'Window or Door' to another.
