# Carbon

### Upfront Carbon Modelling on Better Building

"Upfront carbon" or "embodied carbon" refers to the greenhouse gas emissions that are generated during the manufacturing, transportation, and construction of building materials, as well as during the construction process itself. It's called "Upfront" or "embodied" because these emissions are produced before the building is used. They are "Upfront" or "embodied" in the building itself.

Our Upfront Carbon approach is unique, where we utilise workflows for walls, roofs, floors and glazing systems to automate the stated carbon content. A typical wall, roof, floor and glazing system is modelled in less than 10 minutes, including simulations and results.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.betterbuilding.io/user-guide/workflows/carbon.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
