# Manage a Material

There are two ways to move materials within a Wall, Roof or Floor System: you can either shift a material or use drag and drop.

## **Shift a Material**

Shifting a material lets you move it from one position to another within a Wall, Roof or Floor System. Hover over any material on the left side of the screen and you’ll see options to 'Shift In' or 'Shift Out'.

* 'Shift Out' moves the material towards the outer side of the system.
* 'Shift In' moves it towards the inner side.

## **Drag and Drop a Material**

The drag and drop feature works similarly, letting you reposition a material wherever you need. Just hover over the material on the left, hold down the left mouse button or trackpad, and drag it to your preferred spot.

## **Delete a Material**

To remove a material, hover over it on the left side of the screen. An ‘x’ will appear in the bottom right corner. Click the ‘x’ and the material will be deleted from the system.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.betterbuilding.io/user-guide/elements/manage-a-material.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
