# Set a Building Class

Within a Space, an individual Building Class can be applied to be assumed in any Zone in which the Space is applied. A Building Class is typically stipulated by a Building Code and provides a set of assumptions within the model for Schedules and minimum energy efficiency or thermal performance requirements.

## Add a New Building Class

To update a building class, we need to an additional space. The 'Default' space always inherits the building class of the Project. Click the '+' arrow in the left-hand panel. Select a template from the list. In this case, select 'Class 9B - School' and click 'Select'.

To create a new tag, open the 'Tag' drop-down and select 'Create Tag'. Enter a 'Title', 'Symbol' and 'Colour' as required. Click 'Select' to return to the Spaces area. The new space type 'School' will now be displayed.

The 'Context' can be updated to any building class at this stage. You can switch between classes as needed. Ensure that the correct zone is tagged with this space type for it to function and connect properly to the HVAC system.
