System No. 6 Water-source Heat Pump
A Water-Source Heat Pump system, as defined in EnergyPlus HVACTemplate, is a climate control system commonly used in hotels, apartments, office buildings, and other multi-zone applications.
It consists of individual heat pump units installed in each zone, connected to a common water loop that serves as a heat source and heat sink for all units. Each water-source heat pump contains a water-to-air heat exchanger and a reversible refrigeration cycle that allows it to provide both heating and cooling independently. Units in cooling mode reject heat to the water loop, while units in heating mode extract heat from the loop, creating an energy-efficient heat recovery system. A central boiler and cooling tower maintain the loop water temperature within the required range.
The system enables simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones and provides individual zone temperature control with high energy efficiency through heat recovery. This configuration is particularly suitable for applications where decentralized zone control with the ability to heat and cool simultaneously is preferred.
A Water-Source Heat Pump system comprises:
Plant HVAC component - Water Loop Heat Pump System (Boiler and Cooling Tower)
Space HVAC component - Water-Source Heat Pump Unit
The 'Select HVAC Template' form allows for multiple Spaces to be served. Clicking into the 'Spaces' field shows a list of available Spaces. Each selected Space will have one Water-Source Heat Pump Unit Space HVAC component, providing individual zone climate control.
