System No. 11 SZ-VAV (Single Zone VAV)
A Single Zone Variable Air Volume (SZ-VAV) system, as defined in EnergyPlus HVACTemplate, is a climate control system commonly used in commercial buildings serving a single thermal zone. It consists of a central air handling unit (AHU) that supplies variable volumes of conditioned air through ductwork to a single zone.
The central AHU includes cooling coils (typically chilled water or direct expansion), heating coils, filters, and variable speed fans to condition and distribute air based on zone demand. Unlike constant volume systems, the SZ-VAV modulates airflow to match the zone's heating or cooling requirements, reducing fan energy consumption during partial load conditions.
The system draws outdoor air for ventilation through the central AHU, and fans distribute the conditioned air throughout the space, ensuring effective temperature control and energy efficiency through variable air volume operation. This configuration is particularly suitable for applications where a single zone requires precise temperature control with improved energy efficiency compared to constant air volume systems.

A Single Zone VAV system comprises:
Plant HVAC component - Condenser Water Loop, Chilled Water Loop, Hot Water Loop and Air Handling Unit
Space HVAC component - Air Terminal
The 'Select HVAC Template' form allows for multiple Spaces to be served. Clicking into the 'Spaces' field shows a list of available Spaces. Each selected Space will have one Single Zone VAV Unit Space HVAC component, providing dedicated variable air volume climate control for that zone.
