HVAC Templates
An HVAC template is a predefined, high-level object used to define Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in building energy modelling. Instead of manually inputting detailed specifications for every component, users can define complex HVAC systems through simplified, high-level inputs. The template then automatically generates the detailed, low-level objects needed for the model. This approach saves a significant amount of time and helps minimise errors that might occur when entering a large number of individual parameters by hand.
Each HVAC template has its own set of required inputs, depending on the type of system or component being modelled. These inputs might include heating and cooling capacities, equipment efficiencies, fuel types, control strategies and other key details.
HVAC templates can also be linked directly to Spaces. For example, when a template includes multiple air handling units, these can be assigned to individual Spaces and then integrated at the Plant HVAC level, ensuring the system is correctly mapped to the building layout.
Select an HVAC Template
To select an HVAC Template, navigate to 'HVAC' and click 'Select Template' in the Schematic ribbon. Next, under 'Template', select a preferred template, noting that those ending in 'EnergyPlus HVACTemplate' are simplified systems suitable for building code compliance or early-stage design.
