# IDF Exports and Imports

This 9-minute course is designed to provide professionals with essential knowledge and practical skills to work with IDF (Input Data File) formats in EnergyPlus. The course focuses on exporting, editing, and reimporting IDF files using Speckel, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and SketchUp to improve simulation workflows and model validation.

**Course Structure:**

This single-session course begins with an introduction to IDF files as the native format for EnergyPlus, explaining their role in energy simulations within Speckel. Participants will learn how to export IDF files, review inputs in IDF Editor, and validate simulation settings for energy modelling.

The course also explores importing IDF files into SketchUp using OpenStudio tools, allowing participants to visualise models in 3D and add additional elements, such as shading devices. The session includes a step-by-step guide on how to modify and reimport these enhanced models into Speckel for more detailed analysis.

Additionally, the course covers best practices for IDF validation, including checking simulation parameters, detecting levels, and ensuring correct zone recognition.
